NOTICE TO MATINICUS ISLAND FERRY PASSENGERS:

There is no scheduled, published state ferry departure time

FROM Matinicus Island.

The state ferry will lay over at Matinicus Island for a maximum of

one hour, but may depart earlier if all vehicles are loaded and

everybody appears ready.

***It is suggested that passengers who are making a round-trip

should notify a crew member that they will be returning to the

vessel for transport back to Rockland.

Do not go far from the wharf area on foot!

You will not have much time on the island!

***Passengers and drivers starting their trip at Matinicus Island

should arrive at the wharf area as soon as possible after the ferry

arrives and vehicles unload (but do not block the wharf!) Be

ready; do not wait an hour after the ferry arrives to prepare to

board.

If you are delayed and not on site when the ferry first arrives at

Matinicus, make sure somebody on the wharf knows that you are

on your way and plan to board.

Average crossing time for the M/V Charles Norman Shay is 1

hour 45 minutes, but may be less in calm weather.
