The animal control officer (ACO) handles any complaints involving domesticated animals (pets or farm animals).  All dogs must be current on rabies vaccinations and licensed once reaching six months of age.  All dogs must be licensed yearly and a current and valid rabies certificate from a veterinarian must be shown when licensing.  The most common ACO calls are regarding dogs at large, dog bites or aggressive dogs, animal welfare (example: dog left in a truck), dog barking complaints, and feral cats.

For any concerns regarding wild animals please contact the Maine Game Warden Service.  For issues regarding anything living in the ocean please contact the Maine Marine Patrol.  Avian Haven located in Freedom, Maine handles any bird complaints.
